FTL, or Full Truck Load, is a road freight service where a single shipper books an entire truck for their cargo alone. The vehicle is loaded at your site, sealed, and driven directly to the destination without stops to load or unload other customers' goods. In Saudi Arabia, FTL is the backbone of domestic distribution between Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and the industrial cities.
How FTL shipping works
The process is simple. You share the pickup and delivery addresses, cargo type, weight and required date. The carrier assigns a suitable vehicle — a 40-ft flatbed, a curtain-side trailer, a closed box truck or a refrigerated reefer — and the driver collects the load at the agreed time. Because no other cargo shares the trailer, transit is direct and handling is minimal.
When FTL is the right choice
- Your shipment fills most of a trailer (typically 10 or more standard pallets, or 15+ tonnes).
- The cargo is time-sensitive and you cannot afford consolidation delays.
- The goods are fragile, high-value or temperature-controlled and must not be handled in transit.
- You need a fixed departure and arrival window, for example for a retail replenishment or a production line.
Typical FTL transit times in Saudi Arabia
Riyadh to Jeddah is usually 12 to 14 hours on the road, Riyadh to Dammam around 5 to 6 hours, and Jeddah to Dammam roughly 16 to 18 hours. Add loading, documentation and rest periods, and most domestic FTL lanes deliver next day.
